For those who are not aware, Catholic Filipinos traditionally observe the Holy Week and during this time, shops, malls and restaurants may be closed especially on Holy Thursday Mar. 20) and Good Friday(Mar. 21).This may help those who haven’t made plans yet..
My family and I will be spending it in Cebu along with our 2 dogs…We’ll be staying in our beach house and observe the Catholic practices like Visita Iglesia, fasting / abstinence, etc. Would love to hear your ideas!

To help you I will tell you a common catholic parable joke used in some homly’s during this holy time.
Three men die and go to heave, and St Peter say’s sorry, no one can simply enter anymore you gotta take a quiz first. So he asks the first man–”What is the meaning of Easter”? And he answers easter is a time to spend with your family, to fast, and to abstain. St Peter said, I’m sorry but that was not correct.
He turns to the second guy and says, “if you get this right, I’ll let all three of you in”, and repeats the question. The second man answers, “Easter is a time to give to others who are less fortunate, a time to give thanks, and a time to remember the miracles of our life and the virtue of charity”. Again, St Peter shook his head and said, no I’m sorry it’s not.
He then turns to the last man, and asks the same question. The last man pauses and said “For our sins Jesus Christ was crucified under Pointus Pilot, he suffered, died and was buried, and on the third day”…just then St Peter, with a smile, interrupts him and calls over the other two guys saying “now listen to this, oh please continue”. The man continues “As I said He suffered died and was buried, and on third day he came out of the cave, he didn’t see his shadow so he went back inside.”.
The point is that Easter is a time to rememer the sacrifice Jesus made for us, by setting our own path towards scripture and most importantly, towards our journey to holiness. So in this respect Easter is a wonderful time to concentrate in prayer in a way that is meaningful and real in that it focuses on Jesus gift to all of us. You could try a pilgrimage, adoration, and praise. I usually push aside the concept of abstinence and minimize the focus on fasting because Easter itself is not a day for fasting for a reason. Fasting only helps us to concentrate, and to realize for a moment without making a true sacrifice what Jesus gave up for us. In this respect we’re not sacrificing anything and we’re not really expected to , but we should recognize how much the sacrifice and concept was by fasting a little on certain days for focus.
Easter is actually a day of great joy, revelation, and is perhaps the most caristmatic day of the year. Easter is a time to renew our faith, to be reborn in spirit through affirmation of our faith, and to renew our personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Easter is a day to open ourselves to the holy spirit and to let into ourselves the mysteries.
You may visit Baguio city and do visita inglesia there.
Some Filipinos use the time to go to the beach because its the longest holiday.

I am not a Catholic but we also commemorate the death of our Christ.
Me and some friends are planning to climb Mt. Apo as we always do, or maybe just visit some untapped waterfalls, commune with nature and do some reflections.
God bless!
